At Disney World, Teal is the New Pink, Purple

The transportation department at Walt Disney World Resort has introduced into service the new¬† Monorail Teal.¬† Disney monorails are named for the color of the painted stripe down their side.¬† The “new” train was built from the undamaged parts of two trains involved in an accident¬†this past summer.pink monorail

The monorails Pink and Purple collided with each other, resulting in the death of the 21-year-old driver in July.  The fatal accident resulted in a federal safety investigation and the suspension of the highlight experience of guests riding in the front car with the pilot.

While safety should be the first priority, it is sad that this beloved experience had to be discontinued.¬† Our family has enjoyed riding in the front car on many occasions, often on¬† “the first thing to do when we get there” list.¬† I always loved watching the faces of my little Disney travelers as they took in the sights of all that there was to see and do at the Magic Kingdom.¬† The sights and the experience is still there, just from a sideways view!

Guests at Walt Disney World Resort are treated to complimentary transportation including the monorails, bus, boats and water taxis.  This is a great service offered to guests and really adds to the relaxation of the vacation.

The colors Pink and Purple will be retired from the monorail colors.  With the addition of Monorail Teal, the total number of trains in service at Walt Disney World now stands at 11, one shy of the usual 12.  A 12th train  is planned to be added next year.
