Sawdust Art Festival Opens November 21

The annual Sawdust Art Festival, a nonprofit organization, celebrates and supports local artists from Laguna Beach snowflake(map).  The festival was created to “entertain and educate”, and draws attendees from all over the country.  The theme for 2009 is “Winter Fantasy: A World of Art and Imagination,” which includes community decorated trees, Santa Claus, and a Holiday Gingerbread House.

The festival will be open only weekends only, November 21 & 22, November 27*, 28 & 29 (*open the Friday after Thanksgiving), December 5 & 6, and December 12 & 13, from 10 AM – 6 PM each day.  Admission is $6 for a one day ticket for adults, with special rates for seniors, children, and military.  Admission is free on opening day for Laguna Beach residents (with ID).

The 9th Annual Community Tree Lighting Ceremony will begin on November 21st at 6 PM when Laguna Beach Mayor Kelly Boyd will light the Community Tree.  Complimentary cookies and apple cider will be provided during the ceremony.

A great place to pick up some unique art pieces or a special holiday gift, art available will include jewelry, clothing, blown glass, ceramics, woodwork, forged metals, painting, sculpture, furniture and more.  The festival also offers art classes daily and live entertainment ranging from balloon animals, magicians, and music.  The full schedule of events can be found here.

There will also be a Toys for Tots toy drive taking place throughout the duration of the festival.  Supported by the Marine Corps, Toys for Tots is an toy drive that takes place across America during the holidays to distribute to needy children ages newborn to 17.

Sounds like an amazing time benefiting some great people – I’m definitely going this year!
