Tasty Thai at the Wheel of Life
This past weekend I discovered the Wheel of Life Restaurant in Irvine (map). Located in the Walnut Village Shopping Center, this Vegetarian Thai restaurant quickly became a new favorite!
Although there were several other groups of diners, my boyfriend and I were seated immediately. Not one, but two waitresses checked on us for our drink order and (when we could finally decide!) our food orders. Shortly after sitting down, a man (I’m presuming was the owner), came over and shook our hands. “First time, yes?” He asked us, and proceeded with a short conversation.
We started with larb, traditionally a meat salad. At the Wheel of Life, the larb (see picture)Â
is made with a meat substitute, that was quite tasty. The extensive menu, which included many traditional Thai meals, made it difficult to choose an entree. I ended up with the stuffed tofu, while my boyfriend went with the spicy noodles. The tofu came with what seemed like a vegetable cream cheese stuffing, covered with a mushroom sauce, and was very good! The spicy noodles came with meatless chicken and was quite spicy, but also very good.
Time for dessert! I was going to go with one of my favorite desserts, green tea ice cream, but I noticed that the Wheel of Life had sweet rice mungbean cake! It may not sound too good, but it’s sweet rice stuffed with sweet mungbean (in this case it tastes a bit like banana), wrapped in a banana leaf and cooked.
Overall, a great choice for a vegetarian meal, and I can’t wait to go back!
