Carrying the Olympic Torch to Vancouver: BC Place Stadium

On October 30,  the Olympic Torch arrived in Victoria B.C. for it’s long journey around Canada finally returning to BC Place Stadium in Vancouver B.C. on February 12, 2010 to launch to 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.The torch relay will cover the entire country, on a 106 day journey.DSC08477

BC Place Sdatium, located in the heart of Vancouver, is the home of some of B.C.’s great moments in sports history as well a a venue for other noted events including the recent U2 concert. As well as hosting major leage baseball and soccer, and BC Lion’s football games,  it’s the home of the Province’s largest Trade and Consumer shows, including the International Boat Show, B.C. Home and Garden Show and the Pacific International Automobile Show.  A lot of major events happen here over 200 days a year. And in February 2010, B.C. Place will host the Winter Olympics with the opening and closing ceremonies and medal presentations. 

The Stadium seats 60,000 people and has been a world class venue since the raising of its air supported dome in 1983.   In  2011 B.C. Place Stadium will be given a new energy-saving reractable roof, opening up the possibilities for many more events to be held year-round.DSC08473
