Amsterdam on a Shoestring

Money can only be spent once. Here are four tips.

1. Check your bill in cafes or restaurants because tourists often pay more (sometimes locals, too). Watch out for items you didn’t order.

2 Accommodation is usually the largest chunk of your budget. Blogpillar has great suggestions for affordable hotel chains and Amsterdamlogue mentions several budget hotels in the Red Light District.

3. A canal cruise is a good way to see Amsterdam at leisure but many of these trips are quite pricey. Eurocheapo blog found a very budget friendly canal cruise.

4. If you feel more energetic rent a bike and tour the city on pedal power. Eurocheapo found the cheapest bikes in town. Have you got any budget suggestion? I’d love to hear them.
