Flea Market For The Salty Sea Dog: Venice Sells Sea Stuff

I’ve written about several antique markets that occur throughout Venice as well as the Veneto, but one in particular is one of my favorites and it happens this time of year on via Garibaldi in Venice. The event is the Flea Market of “Sea Stuff” on the 27th of September, and this is the only time when you can find a collection of sea faring artifacts that date back decades or centuries.

The market itself is simply billed as “Sea Stuff”, and stuff is the perfect word. This is a market with antiques and second hand  that has a wide range of books, comics, prints, and other objects for collectors entirely organized by non-professionals so it’s your perfect chance to get something really good really cheap. If you’re really lucky you’ll be able to find that old, wooden anchor you’ve been looking for, or some compact port-side cannons that will help keep the neighbor kids in their own lawn.

For more information, you’ll have to contact the city hall office for the islands of Murano and Burano at this number: +39 041 271-0022. If you don’t make it this month, don’t worry, the event will continue throughout the fall and winter until next summer on the 4th Sunday of the month. Aye, get yurself sump’em good!
