Spurs Parker Suffers Minor Ankle Injury

San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker planned to play for the French national team this summer in hopes of helping France qualify for the 2009 European Championship. However, in France’s first exhibition game, Parker suffered an ankle injury.

Although French doctors said that the ankle injury was minor, the Spurs wanted a closer look. To make that happen, Parker was told to return to San Antonio from Europe. Once he arrived in San Antonio, the Spurs confirmed that Parker has a minor ankle injury.

According to reports, Parker is scheduled to return to France on Wednesday. The French national team has a game on Friday against Finland, although its not known whether Parker will be able to play in that contest. In the following game, August 14th against Italy, Parker will likely play.

Last season, Parker, who is married to Desperate Housewives‘ star Eva Longoria, had arguably his best campaign in the NBA. In the regular season, he averaged 22 points and almost seven assists per game. In the playoffs, he raised his scoring average to 28.6 points per contest. Despite his heroics, the Spurs lost the Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the 2009 NBA playoffs.
