Spurs Sign 2nd Round Pick DeJuan Blair
In the 2009 NBA Draft, the San Antonio Spurs drafted DeJuan Blair. Immediately, many draft experts predicted that Blair would be the steal of the draft. Since that point, the city of San Antonio has been buzzing about the burly power forward out of the University of Pittsburgh.
On Thursday, the Spurs and Blair reportedly agreed to a four-year contract worth approximately $4 million. In summer league action, Blair has showed exactly why the team and its fans are excited. In two games, he’s averaging 16.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in only 24.5 minutes per game.
While his 6-foot-7 height is a couple of inches shorter than optimal height for a power forward, he has a muscular 265-pound frame that allows him to bully opponents in the paint. Last year while playing for Pittsburgh, Blair led the nation in offensive rebounding as he led his squad to the Elite 8.
Next season, Blair is likely to come off the bench behind superstar Tim Duncan and recent acquisition Antonio McDyess. If the buzz around town is any indication, he’s sure to be a fan favorite.
