Philippine Art Under One Big Tent

The Philippines is oozing with creative talent. However a good number of Filipino artists are lured to work abroad for higher pay and greater worldly recognition. No more. In the last five years,  new galleries have popped up and the more established galleries have spruced up their spaces to ensure that the Filipino artist has a venue to show off his stuff. A walk around one of these galleries will have flabbergasted on why there hasn’t been a Filipino to garner world-acclaim since Juan Luna.

That’s about to change with the first international art fair to be held on the islands: Manila Art 09. It’s a gateway for the entire world to have a peek at the immensity of local talent, conveniently located in one venue. The concentration of art and artsy fartsiness is sure to be explosive. It’s happening at the Global City: Fort Bonifacio Tent, 11 am- 9pm, from July 17-19.  Admission is priced at P200 or $5.
