Hiking on Table Mountain – Safety Tips
View of Table Mountain from Devil\’s Peak The last article that was done was a new safety features that as been added to one of Cape’s tricky routes along the iconic Table Mountain.
But sadly another hiker has fallen to his death from the Indian Venster (meaning Window) route. The hiker’s Body was discovered by another hiker on the same route.
It is really essential for visitors who come to Cape Town and would like to climb Table Mountain do so in a group or at least with a registered field guide. Here are some other safety tips that are vital when attempting to climb this majestic mountain.
1. Never Climb alone – at least a group of 4.
2. Choose the route according to the strength of group
3. Always prepare for bad weather
4. Make sure you have a fully charged cell or mobile phone in case of an emergency.
5. Make sure you tell someone what route you will be taking.
6. Travel at the pace of the slowest person in the group.
7. The Groups should never split up – always stick togeather
8. Stick to the track never wonder off
9. If at any stage you feel unsure and unsafe fine shelter and wait for either the weather to change or for rescuers to arrive.
10. Make sure you research the route and get advice from an experienced guide /hiker.
