World’s Smallest Art Gallery
Last month Priscilla Jourdan Art Galley opened its doors. The gallery is only 3 square metres and rubs shoulders with window prostitutes, peep shows and a sandwich shop. In this tiny spot you can find fashion, art and design collections, both from Jourdan’s and other artists.
The Art Gallery is named Il Gioiello, Italian for The Jewel. This place is a true gem right in the middle of Amsterdam’s Red Light District.
The shop window is an eye catcher. Jourdan, in the nude, sits on a horse. The riding crop in her hand serves as the only piece of clothing.
On a recent visit to Paris, Jourdan came across two miniature art galleries. I can do the same, she thought. And indeed her gallery is even smaller than the Paris ones.
Inside the mini-gallery showpieces are exhibited, showpieces that can be bought. Every garment is of the finest quality and handmade. The luscious black satin kimono with long flowing sleeves can be yours for €4,000. Maybe you rather have a hand-made cushion made of leather and fur, prices range from €1,200 to €500. Soft rabbit fur throws consisting of six panels hold together suede cord decorated with golden beads are a true temptation at only €2,500.
