Mee Udang Banjir (Flooded Prawn Mee) Kuala Sepetang, Taiping

The demise of Bukit Gantang Member of Parliment, the late Roslan Shaharum must have been a blessing in disguise for Mak Teh who is the owner of the popular Mee Banjir Udang Kuala Sepetang (literally translated, Prawn-flooded Noodles, Kuala Sepetang… you see why in the picture below).

The recent Bukit Gantang by-election must have shot Mak Teh to a new stardom for this food joint has been reportedly making brisk business taking care of the party workers and election tourists that had pushed the economy of Taiping folks to a new height, although for a short two or three weeks only. Simple speaking, there was no economic downturn in Bukit Gantang Parliment. Bukit Selambar is the same I guess although Batang Ai could be somewhat different, due to geographical factor preventing election tourists and more party workers to flock Batang Ai in the same scale as Bukit Gantang and Bukit Selambau.

Now, back to this Mee Banjir Udang Kuala Sepetang, it looks really delicious, isn’t it. As you can see from the photo, this must be the noodles with the most number of prawns served, anywhere I have seen. The Malay idiomatic expression ‘ada udang disebalik mee’ (literally translated: there is prawn behind the noodles’) does not apply in Kuala Sepetang, for it is clearly ‘ada mee disebalik udang’ (literally translated: there is noodles behind the prawns’).

I want to write more on this but I want to do it when I personally visit this place which I have missed during my recent trip up north due to time constraints. In the mean time, if you are travelling to Taiping or anywhere up north, it could worth your while to deviate a little while and try this delicious noodles flooded with prawns in Kuala Sepetang.

Warung Mak Teh can be contacted at +605-858 2270. Hmmmm… I am hungry.
